A Little Outdoors Man

Andrew is already becoming an outdoors man. He loves being outside and doing all the outdoorsy stuff....camping, fishing, farming, hunting, riding his bike. He is really interested in learning about all of it. He loves camping. Matt took him to Great Grandma and Grandpa Kliethermes' a couple months ago and they had a great time. He plays camping and hunting a lot. He makes tents, fires, and hunts his deer, elk, and bear.

We went to the farm a few weeks ago with Papa. Andrew followed Matt and Papa around the entire weekend watching everything they did. The three of them went fishing and Andrew caught his first fish all by himself. He has caught a few before with the help of Matt, but this one was all on his own. Matt said he showed Andrew a few times how to cast it out and then let him do it on his own. Matt said Andrew stuck with it, was quiet and still, and kept casting out and reeling in. He noticed something splashing in the water and asked Andrew if he had a fish. Andrew said "No." He thought he was just caught on something, but he really did have a fish. Matt told him to keep reeling it in and Matt lifted it out of the water. Andrew was so excited. He told me about it and how big the fish was (and he's already starting a few fish tales) :). He of course also wanted to ride the 4-wheeler, which is one of his favorite things to do! He woke up Sunday morning and the first thing he asked was if he could take a 4-wheeler ride. He would have been happy to ride all weekend.

Andrew is also a little farmer. He plays farm almost every day. He plants beans and corns just like Papa. He also has a barn with horses, pigs, and cows. We usually take Andrew out a couple times to help Papa do some real farming when he is planting and harvesting. Andrew loves it. He gets to help drive the tractor and combine. He has taken one of his tractors for show and tell already this year. I'm sure he will be Papa's little helper when he gets older.

Bike riding is another favorite for Andrew. Andrew started riding his bike without training wheels a couple months before he turned 4. It didn't take him long to get the hang of it. He's a great bike rider. And can now do wheelies. I was really impressed when he showed me. I won't even try to do a wheelie. A new bike is on his Christmas list. The bike he has now he got when he was 2, so he has definitely outgrown it. I'm hoping he does okay without training wheels on a bigger bike.

I'm sure Andrew has years of camping, fishing, hunting, and farming with Daddy and Papa. I think they will all be excited to do it together. Here are a few pictures of Andrew doing what he loves most:

Farming with Papa:

Playing in the creek at Shaw Nature Reserve. Andrew loves mud, water, dirt, rocks, bugs, gardening, anything outside.

Watching closely while Matt gets Andrew's fish ready to cook.
